  • Helping your clothes last years not weeks

    We have all been there, that new t-shirt you bought has faded after only two washes or your favourite pair of jeans has developed a hole on the seam after only a few months. Many people say that the quality of usual clothing is in decline and that because so many companies are trying to make large quantities of clothing quickly and that they can sell cheap, this has been reflected in the quality.

    You don’t have to be a massive clothes expert to ditch the low-quality clothing and opt for something that has been designed and made to last. Often people take little notice of the fabric an item of clothing has been made from but this can have a massive effect on how long it should last. Clothing that is made from plant extracts or animals such as Cotton or wool are often a better quality than ones made from polyester or acrylic meaning they will wash better and last longer.

    Another way to look after your clothing is to turn down the heat on your washing machine and your tumble dryer and if possible avoid using your tumble dryer as much as you can. Similar to our hair, intense and prolonged heat can very quick damage it and this also happens with our clothes.

     

     

  • What are the benefits of having a tungsten ring?

    Whether you’re looking for a wedding ring, engagement ring or just want to surprise a loved one, a ring can be a special item that can be worn easily night and day. If looked after a ring can often last a good number of years, but it is very important to consider the metal that the ring is made from. Metals such as gold and platinum can be very expensive and some people simply cannot afford to or do not want to spend that much money on a ring. There are some great alternative metals that can be sued that still give the same effect but at a fraction of the cost.

    In jewellery production, tungsten carbide wedding rings have many advantages over the traditional metals. Tungsten as a raw element and is very strong, similar to titanium. Although gold, silver and platinum look very nice, they are nowhere near as hard wearing as tungsten so will often get damaged and wear away easier. Tungsten is ten times stronger than gold for example.

    One of the greatest appeals to tungsten carbide is its ability to hold a shine. Unlike gold and silver which often tarnish and fade over time, tungsten will never get dull, meaning that you do not have to worry about getting it cleaned.

     

     

  • Being aware when buying clothing online

    As you shop around online for clothing you may often come across branded clothing that seems too cheap to be true. The fact is that if it looks too cheap there is probably a reason. Often designer clothing that is sold on websites way below the usual retail price is not genuine and therefore is not usually made to the same high standards. Often it may be very difficult to tell if an item of clothing is genuine or not but there are sometimes tell tales signs that you can look out for. It may be that the stitching is not quite right or that the fabric it is made from feels too cheap. You may be able to get in touch with the designer or retailer that stocks the items to ask if they can let you know how you can tell if an item is genuine.

    The only way to be sure is to buy from a reputable reseller or direct from the designer yourself. With people becoming more eager to make a quick buck, there are often more fraudulent items out there than genuine ones and you may find that your investment is not only worthless but really poor quality.

     

  • The importance of ring sizing

    When choosing a ring it is important that it fits correctly. If the ring is too loose it may fall off and often when you don’t even realise too small and it can cut off the circulation to your finger which can have lasting effects. When your hands are warm they tend to swell up in size so you may find that a ring that is a little bit too tight all of a sudden becomes unwearable. The best time to try on a ring is when your hands are cool, so if you are out shopping, try it on before you start rather than at the end of a shopping trip. The ring should be comfortable but not too tight.

    Some rings can be resized and this often depends on the metal they are made out of. Precious metals such as Gold, Silver and White Gold can often be resized but other metals such as Tungsten cannot so you will need to buy a ring that fits.

    If the ring is for a special occasion such as an engagement, birthday or wedding then you may want to have a ring designed so it is personal to you. Many jewellers offer this service although you will often pay more for a bespoke ring than one off the shelf.

    When you are looking to choose your wedding rings you may be torn between sticking with traditions or with picking a ring that you really like even if it is not usual for a wedding ring.

    The ring you chose should mean something to you and your partner and many people say that it doesn’t matter what it looks like or how much it cost, just that it is special for you two. Do not too bogged down with trying to fit in with the norm and go with your heart.

    Over the past decade, wedding rings do seem to be available in a wide price range and also in a variety of materials, colours and styles. You are hopefully going to be wearing this ring for the rest of your lie so it is important that it is something you like. You should also be sure to get the right size. You should not try a ring on when your hands are hot as your fingers will be swollen and if you are going to be wearing it under another ring, then take that with you to try on together.
